ACT Baseboard Next: An Engine Debacle: A New Start with Amstrad Project Rainbow Dash

August 2017 Edition

Not to be confused with Project Rainbow Dash, the ACT Baseboard Dashboard.

With rewriting ACT Baseboard in Amstrad logothe upcoming version of ACT Baseboard, currently under the codename Amstrad, we are no longer reliant on the Office Source Engine (commonly shorten to OSE). OSE is framework itself, it houses a memory manager, interpreter, and can be extended with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).

As we mentioned in the last Andre’s Computer Tips Event, we are not going to rely on OSE as it has many too many limitations and we can’t bring ACT Baseboard to its full potential. And we can’t deliver the experience and the features that customers want. Andre’s Computer Tips wants to satisfy our customers.

Meet Amstrad Project Rainbow Dash.

dashieisbestponyAmstrad Project Rainbow Dash is basically COMMONER reincarnated. For those who don’t know, Commoner was the external memory manager for ACT Baseboard 1.3 and earlier. As we made improvements to the ACT Baseboard Platform, and by, then a decent offering, fully implementing OSE’s own solution.

The project is named after the Pegasus in the show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Rainbow Dash. Which in the television show, Rainbow Dash is described as one of the fastest and more talented fliers in all of Equestria (the name of a country in the show).

“We named it after her, because it’s fitting! …The new engine for the new ACT Baseboard Platform [3.0] will be significantly faster than the engine used in older [OSE-based] versions of ACT Baseboard”

– Andre Grindstaff, CEO of Andre’s Computer Tips and Lead of the Project

As we mentioned abandoning OSE is difficult, we leave 7 years of work behind, to basically start over.

With the release of ACT Baseboard Codename: Amstrad, we had rework the ACT Baseboard Commoner system for Amstrad.

Amstrad Project: Rainbow Dash will offer full support for applicate interpretation, and will allow ACT Baseboard applicates to communicate to the operating system on more deeper level than OSE will ever allow.

Applicates will live inside the new engine.
